About Elise
I'm a former English professor, working oil painter, and ceramicist who loves houses— not just the idea of them, but the actual wood, stone, and stories they hold.
As an academic, I wrote about the history of domestic space in literature. In real life, I've loved restoring our old Virginia farmhouse and building a beautiful guest house that's been a wildly successful Airbnb for the past 13 years.
My husband (a historian who writes popular non-fiction) and I personally care for every property we manage. We live in beautiful Nelson County with our three kids at Spindle Hill Farm, where we work, host, and genuinely love what we do.
The Airbnb Insider Advantage
In 2020, Airbnb tapped me as one of only 50 top-performing hosts in the United States to join their Superhost Ambassador Program. They trained me on the nuances of their software and how to onboard new hosts the right way.
Since then, I've helped thousands of new hosts all over the world start small businesses. It's been deeply meaningful work.
I'm regularly invited to conferences at Airbnb's San Francisco headquarters and participate weekly in working groups, workshops, and seminars with Airbnb staff. When you're an Airbnb insider, you really don't need to host on multiple platforms—I keep it simple, elegant, and lucrative.
After years of encouragement from Airbnb staff, I took the leap into co-hosting. And I love it.
How I Co-Host Differently
I co-host in a way that's more personal than traditional property management, with full transparency. You retain your intellectual property—your listing and your reviews. I host your property with exceptional care and hospitality, treating it like I would my own.
I'm also a leader of the official Airbnb Host Club of Central Virginia, which covers more than a third of our beautiful state. I've worked with hosts across Virginia to advocate for reasonable short-term rental policies.
Affordable housing is one of my passions, and I use my position to advocate for everyone who lives and works in my community. Short-term rentals can be an important part of the local economy, but smart regulation helps preserve affordable homes for everyone.
Why I Do This
This isn't just a business for me. I love working with hosts who love their homes, and I believe home sharing is a powerful way to build meaningful connection.
